You’ve heard it a billion times by now – It is important to build your email list.
You’ve also probably heard this one…. “The money is in the list.”
Cool. You got all that. Nothing new, really. But, where are you at? Do you have a big email list yet? And even more importantly, do you know HOW to USE your list as it grows?
It is easy to get so laser-focused on building your list that you lose sight of the big picture. Especially with people continually going on and on about how important it is to build the list. Yeah, I do it, too.
After all, it IS important to build your list.
But, then what? So you’ve got a person on your email list. Now what?
What do you say to them? How often do you email them? What are you supposed to do? And… how do you keep them from unsubscribing?
This is where most list building efforts fall short. We get so focused on building up the numbers that we forget that over half the battle is KEEPING the subscribers. That lack of direction on what to do with your subscribers causes one to go into mental paralysis… you don’t email your list that often because you don’t know what to say. And… your list goes stale.
There’s no point in list building when you screw it up after they subscribe.
With all this emphasis on building the list (and don’t get me wrong – it IS important), it is easy to get super deflated when your list building efforts haven’t worked out well for you.
A lot of my readers have email lists with less than 50 people on them. In a world where we all read the big “guru” sites and see the big launches, we feel like dust specks in this big world. You might feel as if your list isn’t big enough to warrant much. How could you possibly sell anything to a list that small?
Stop that! For a moment, let’s assume you have a list of 50 people. Hell, even 10 people. Great! Now, realize this…
Now, you tell me – is that valuable? You bet it is!
Now, realizing that all of them are real people, imagine a crowd of 50 people who are gathered in a room. There is a stage at the front of that room and YOU’RE ON IT. There you are on stage, and you have 50 people STARING AT YOU. They all came there to listen to what you have to say. Gulp!
In that moment, you realize something – these ARE real people. And I better say something worth their time or they’re going to walk on out of here!
So, the silver lining is that a small email list is still a valuable email list. Those are real people. In case you didn’t realize it, they have wallets with credit cards, too.
Now, it is your job to correspond with that list in an effective way, to build a relationship with them. These people can become your biggest fans – and, ultimately, a small dedicated group of subscribers who trust you is worth FAR more than a big list who doesn’t.
So, the big question now is…. How?
The game has changed, and many of the big “gurus” are running for the trees. Because they went about their email marketing all wrong.
In fact, here’s a good indicator:
Chances are, you answered “yes” to at least a few. And, being that you’re just 1 click away from unsubscribing from any of those lists, perhaps you exercised your right.
Those people lost your subscription (or attention) because they failed to provide a compelling reason to pay attention. Pure and simple. And, all too often, they end up pitching things WAY too often and end up burning out their list. Sure, they might brag about lists of 100,000 people, but the dirty little truth is that very few of those subscribers ACTUALLY pay any attention.
They didn’t master their list – and truly build a relationship. Instead, they burned their list and tried to “extract” as much cash as possible without providing real value in return.
The game has changed. While big lists are nice, the truth is you don’t need them. In fact, if you truly understand the strategies I’m going to show you, you can get great results even with tiny email lists. And all of it is based on being totally COOL with your subscribers, providing value, and building anticipation. We’re all about building for the long-term here, not burning your list out like those “gurus” did (and are probably regretting now).

Is this class just going to re-hash the same stuff everybody already says about building a list?
Nope. While there will be some overlap (because those things work), my plan is to hone in on those things which seem to be the biggest “gotchas” that keep people from applying the stuff which is already out there for free. Plus, we’re going to be getting into some more advanced writing techniques and email marketing strategies that go right to the heart of WHAT to send to your list, HOW to write it, etc. Those things aren’t really covered super will in other places because everybody is so focused on “give away a free thing and build your list”. That’s only a small part of the real story.
Is this training right for me?
Yes, pure and simple. Because there isn’t a soul online – bloggers, business owners, marketers, etc. – whose biggest asset is something OTHER than their email list. The email list is the single most important thing you’ve got to get right in order for pretty much everything else to work.
If you’re just starting out and don’t have a list, this course is especially for you. If you have a list, but it isn’t all that big… then this is very much up your alley.
